This map shows where the Light Rail, Bus Rapid Transit, Commuter Rail, and Park-n-Ride components of our plan will run to serve the entire city of Tucson and beyond. Actual routing details and station locations may change depending on the results of in-depth technical studies of the corridors and input from neighborhoods and businesses in the corridor, but this will be the general shape of our proposed map.
The orange line is our Light Rail starter line, which will run 13 miles connecting major attractions from the Laos Transit Center near the Rodeo Grounds on the southside, north past the VA hospital, South Tucson, TCC and Rio Nuevo, Downtown/Government Center, and Ronstadt Transit Center, then east along 6th Street 4th Avenue/Tucson High, the University of Arizona, Rincon Market, then south to Broadway and continuing east along Broadway past El Con Mall/Randolph Park, Williams Center, Park Place Mall, and ending at Prudence/Pantano. This line would likely open by 2008, if funded by voters in May 2002; Bus Rapid Transit service would run the route starting in 2003 to provide immediate service while the rail line is being built. The green line are the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines, which will offer comfortable, fast, limited-stop service on the latest high-end, low-floor buses to extend high-quality service past the end of the Light Rail lines. This system will also include the Light Rail route from 2003 for a system total of 47 miles until 2008 when the rail line opens, at which point the BRT service will serve only the green lines shown on this map.At that point, the BRT service will take passengers in style from Laos Center to the Airport, from Downtown past PCC West to Starr Pass, from Park Place Mall along Tanque Verde to Catalina Highway, and from Prudence/Pantano southeast past PCC East to Rita Ranch and the Tech Park. The purple rail lines are the two Commuter Rail lines. One will operate on existing rails from Marana to AeroPark/Raytheon at the Airport, and another will run from Downtown to the UofA Tech Park at Rita Ranch. These lines will operate 3-4 times in morning rush and 3-4 times in afternoon rush. and could be open by late 2005.
